Who I Am

I’m Anthony Koutoufides, and I’m excited to share my vision for our incredible city as I run for Lord Mayor of Melbourne. Born on January 18, 1973, I’m the proud son of Anna, a migrant from Northern Italy, and Jim Koutoufides, a Greek-Cypriot refugee from Egypt. I was raised in Lalor, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne near Thomastown, where I spent my formative years.

My early years shaped the man I am today, and continue to inspire my commitment to our shared community. Growing up in Thomastown, I began my journey in football with the Lalor Football Club Juniors Team and attended Lalor Secondary College. But my passion for sports extended beyond just football. From grade six, I was an outstanding track and field athlete, excelling in high jump, 110m hurdles, and discus. In 1984, I won gold in high jump at the Australian All Schools Championships and harboured deep aspirations of one day competing in the Olympics for Australia.

My Career Journey

Football Career: My sporting career is best known for my time with the Carlton Football Club, where I was celebrated for my athleticism and versatility. I played in nearly every position on the field, earning a reputation as a prototype of the modern footballer. The discipline and teamwork I developed on the field are the same values I bring to my vision for Melbourne.

Community Leader and Advocate: Beyond football, I have dedicated myself to community service and advocacy. My involvement with local organizations and initiatives has focused on inclusivity, social causes, and engaging with residents to address their needs.

Business Professional: My career in business management and entrepreneurship has given me a strong foundation in economic development. I’ve worked to support local businesses and drive growth, and I’m committed to bringing this experience to Melbourne’s leadership.

I’m running for Mayor because I believe in Melbourne’s potential and the strength of our community. My approach is centered around transparency, collaboration, and direct engagement with residents. I want to be a leader who listens, acts, and makes Melbourne a better place for everyone.

There are many ways you can support this vision. Whether you want to volunteer, get involved in the campaign, or stay updated on our progress, your participation is crucial. Together, we can make a real difference in Melbourne.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you to build a brighter future for our city.

Warm Regards,

Anthony Koutaufides
