Hello Melbourne!

Team Kouta

I’m Anthony Koutoufides,

Born on January 18, 1973, I’m the proud son of Anna, a migrant from Northern Italy, and Jim Koutoufides, a Greek-Cypriot refugee from Egypt. I was raised in Lalor, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne near Thomastown, where I spent my formative years.
My early experiences shaped who I am today and continue to inspire my commitment to our community.
Growing up in Thomastown, I began my journey in football
with the Lalor Football Club juniors and attended Lalor Secondary College. But my passion for sports extended beyond football.
From grade six, I was an outstanding track and field athlete, excelling in high jump, 110m hurdles, and discus. In 1984, I won gold in high jump at the Australian All Schools Championships and harbored aspirations of competing in the Olympics.

Plan for Melbourne

Bringing Workers Back to the City

Team Kouta aims to revitalize Melbourne's CBD, which has quieted post-pandemic. To draw people back, Koutoufides launched a "free coffee" campaign, encouraging workers to return. This is part of a larger effort to restore Melbourne's vibrancy, supporting local businesses by creating a lively city atmosphere.

No Council Rate Increase for the Next 2 Years

To support both residents and businesses during the economic recovery, Team Kouta has pledged to freeze council rates for the next two years. This policy is designed to provide financial relief and stability, helping businesses and homeowners manage their costs without the added burden of rising rates.

Free Parking After 6:30 PM

In an effort to boost the city’s nighttime economy, the team proposes free parking after 6:30 PM. This initiative is intended to make the city more accessible in the evenings, encouraging people to visit local restaurants, bars, and cultural events, thereby supporting the hospitality and entertainment sectors.

More Affordable Housing

Addressing Melbourne’s housing crisis is another critical priority for Team Kouta. They plan to promote and support the development of affordable housing options, ensuring that more residents have access to safe and affordable homes. This focus on housing aims to alleviate pressures on low-income families and contribute to a more inclusive city.

Support for the Homeless

Recognizing the importance of addressing homelessness, Team Kouta is committed to increasing support services and providing more resources for the homeless community. Their plan includes expanding shelter availability and implementing long-term strategies to help individuals transition into permanent housing, with the goal of reducing homelessness across Melbourne.
